The East-West Healing Arts Institute offers a 800-hour program to be completed in 10 months. (An Part-time program is also available.) What do you get?After you graduate:
What will you learn?You will gain a wide range of knowledge including traditional Eastern theory and modern Western science. Eastern theory classes include Introduction to Chinese Medicine and Herbology, and Theory of Eastern Medicine (which will cover classic Chinese assessment techniques). Eastern practice includes extensive courses in TuiNa (Chinese medical massage), Acupressure Point Location and Indication, Tuina and Therapeutic Massage for Medical Conditions and classes in Thai Massage, Reflexology, Zen Shiatsu, Chai Qiao, and more. Western science classes include Clinical Pathology, Practical Anatomy, Musculoskeletal Anatomy, Kinesiology and Body Structure Assessment, Anatomy and Physiology,Pathology. Western massage methods taught include deep tissue, soft tissue techniques, CranioSacral Therapy (Upledger Institute style), sports massage, prenatal massage, and more Our courses in professional ethics and business practices meet and exceed state guidelines! Before you work with clients, you will have already studied the range of ethical issues that massage therapists face. By the time you graduate from our program, you will have learned about the nuts and bolts of finding employment as a massage therapist and setting up your own practice. We offer a comprehensive CPR/First Aid course that exceeds state guidelines for these topics. For a detailed description of classes, see Curriculum. You will gain a great deal of hands-on experience through the Student Clinic, Community Outreach Events, and the TuiNa and Acupressure Internship. How does it work?Full-time programOur full-time program consists of five terms, 8 weeks per term, equaling 40 weeks of course work or approximately 10 months. Full-time students attend sixteen hours of classroom instruction per week. Part-time programOur part-time program consists of ten terms equaling 80 weeks of coursework, approximately 23 months. Part-time students attend eight hours of classroom instruction per week. Dependent on availability at time of enrollment, part-time students attend class: one weekday (9:00 am-5:30 pm), two evenings (6:00 pm-10:00 pm) or one weekend day (9:00 am-5:30 pm). East-West Healing Arts Institution program delivery is residential.  |
